RGT Windsor (Factory Second)

Well, I just finished a Windsor by Real Good Toys (RGT)!! I'm not sure why it was called a "factory second" because it was definitely FIRST in my book! I truly enjoyed the build.

It went together with great ease. I even did a "first" by painting the shingles!

Since it's a gift, I had to depart with it. But I would love to get my hands on another one!

Next project...perhaps a store?

It's been a while...but I am still mini-ing (is that a word?). I've been working on super small things, i.e., this afghan. My hand starts to cramp, so I stop. But, we sacrifice for the things we really want. I really wanted something that I made in at least one of my houses.

I'm also working on a smaller rectangular blanket. It will be all white. Something that I can throw over the back of a sofa or settee.

Wish me luck with getting this completed before the end of 2015.

Dollhouse (Newport) by Bre's World of Mini

 This house was custom built.  I don't have a year, but it looks as if it may have been in the 80's.  I love the garage on the house.  The door stays up when you push it open.  It was already wired for electricity.  I plan to paint it all white with black shutters/door.  As a matter of fact, the entire house will be in black and white. 

I've primed and painted the house with the first coat of white paint.  I've also knocked out some of the interior walls and cut a door to the garage.  I realized the house didn't have stairs.  I'm wondering, how did the little people get to the second floor?  Guess I'll have to repair that by adding some custom stairs.

Of course this blog doesn't stay focused on one project because I just can't seem to focus on just one.  Forgive me for not being well organized-perhaps it's my adult ADD kicking in.  :0)  Plus, in mini world, there's always so much to do. 

Since this house doesn't have the typical 9 1/2" floor to ceiling height, I am going to have to send the measurements to my mini friend to custom-make the stairs.  12" ceilings are pretty high.  At least all of the doors are the perfect 1" scale size. 

I'm excited about this house.  Off to measure I go.  :-) 

Insomnia and House of Miniatures

For the past two days, I've been unable to sleep.  Insomnia has taken over.  So, after surfing the internet for hours, I stopped by my favorite blog spot, Otterine Blog (Brae's spot).  I can spend hours on her miniature blog, as well as her sewing and photography pages.  This woman brings a whole new meaning to the word "talent."  She inspires me to do new things and to challenge myself with making my own mini projects. 

I had a ton of House of Miniature kits that were given to me a few years ago.  I never attempted to put any of them together because I just didn't think I could do it.  Ha!  How true is it that when you put God first, pray about it, He will make sure you win, win, WIN!

I put together 5 kits (a dresser, 2 side tables, 2 chairs, a hutch, and a nightstand) and could still do a few more before the sun comes up.  I started on a 6th one, only to realize it was missing too  many pieces.  Not getting discouraged, I turned that kit into different items to decorate the Thornhill (i.e., shelving units)!  No loss of parts-turned them into something useful.

Here's a sample of what I got done tonight, to include the two chairs I am most proud of.  I still need to find jewelry findings to complete the hardware on the dresser, side table, and hutch.

The Victorian Farmhouse (Real Good Toys)

Can you imagine taking over a year to complete a dollhouse project that should have been completed over a year ago?  Well, sometimes life gets in the way and then life happens to make a way for you to complete the project.

Nicole's miniature home should have been delivered some time ago.  She knew she was getting a dollhouse, but just didn't know when.  Now, the delivery date needs to be set.  Not only was this the first Victoria's Farmhouse I completed, but the first time I actually made the bedding for the beds.  Dare I venture over to making curtains too?

A lot of firsts for me with this house.  Most impressive, the video my best friend made of the house.  It's almost like a little tour.

All Things Begin in BLACK & WHITE

Yes, it's been almost 2 years since I've last blogged about my minis.  Today, I'm feeling inspired.  Ran across Amazing Miniatures when trying to find inspirational ideas for the "black and white house" that I so desperately want to venture over to.  Problem is, I haven't finished the 3 mansions currently taking up a huge amount of space in my home.  Nor, have I finished the Victoria's Farmhouse promised to a little girl way back in February (yes, it is only April and we all know that creativity cannot be rushed)!

Never-the-less, I am going to begin the task of this black and white house.  I think ALL of the furniture will be either black or white.  And I'll only throw color into the mix as accent pieces (i.e., pillows, rugs, etc.).  The problem is...modern or Victorian era?  The miniature world has truly come a long way as it pertains to modern miniatures.  And, I've gotten a little more handy with my Dremel, making my imagination seem endless when it comes to creating my own miniature designs.

For now, it's back to the farmhouse that needs to be in North Carolina by some time in May!
